Cabinet Elevations

For those who design & draw houses & buildings,
how do you draw the cabinet elevations?

Just curious how others are dealing with this item.

And do you provide room elevations?

A common language separated by several thousand miles of deep green stuff. Do you mean the external elevations of the building? If so then they are a projection of the plans and sections. Created out of lines, hatches, blocks and a lot of love. :P  :P

No, I was referring to interior elevations. The exterior elevations are
required for permit purposes. The interior elevations of built
in book cases, kitchen and bathroom cabinets are optional for
the plans I provide. I will usually increase the price of the
plans if I am to provide these interior details. The reason I
don't provide them is that the cabinet subcontractor creates
his set of elevations and are usually exactly the style the
finished cabinets will be. Where as my elevations would be just
an illustration of what they could look like.

But my question goes to how most people are creating them if
they are being included in the building plans.

As far as the exterior elevations, I too project them.
The front elevation gets most of my attention with the
sides & rear usually get less detail and less decorative
moldings. On the 2000 to 4000 square foot homes I often show
the sides & rear without hatches & embellishments. On the
larger and more expensive homes i add all the bells and
whistles as those customers seem to demand and are willing
to pay for them.

Whenever I am to provide a set of cabinet elevations (which I haven't  had to do is a while) I use a set of typical cabinet face blocks. Merrillat has a CD available by simply asking.
I tried using ADT blocks, but since I switch back and forth between A2k A2k2 W/ADT and A2k4 I find it difficult to manage them when using A2k4since it will automatically update the objects to A2k4 objects, even when saving to A2k2. So I stick with Merrillat.

Keith,
Did not see anywhere on the site to request the cad blocks.
How did you ask for them?

Cab'

I  was looking at Merillat  site . Go to Customer Support and then Literature request and fill up the form, I think CD should be included in the package.

Merillat draws them for us. We used to draw them. They were inserted from previously defined blocks.

Cab,

Here is the link that will take you diretcly to  CAD Catalogs     Merillat's AutoCAD Design System , that is where you order a CD.

Interesting that you would bring up this question now, I am having a dilemma with my routine of creating interior elevations.

I use a combination of both ADT as well as the ol' projection lines for my elevations.   Although, with ADT, the projection is more obsolete.   My problem is though, (And I have this as a seperate listing under Design-Center) the stupid design center objects were setup to ByBlock and my office uses ByLayer.  Now the problem is that I cannot place the object, be it a toilet, sink or range, ...  onto a layer and have it take on the color and linetype of that layer.   So, I have to explode the object block to make it take on the layers settings.   BUT, when I explode it, I can no longer use the Section and Elevation line creator because ADT will no longer see the object once it has been exploded.

However, to answer the question, I use the ADT elevation creator to create a generic elevation and then just copy over the elevation with the layers I use for elevations.   I could setup the elevation generator to take on these layers and the settings but it is more time consuming.   It's faster to just redraw over the generic generated elevation.

So Maybe you can help me.  Ronjonp has been helping, but the more heads working on this the easier it would be.   I need a lisp routine that will allow me to change the layer color and the linetype of the design center objects without exploding them.   But I have to be able to select the objects.  (See my Design Center question under Cad General)   Without the option to select, the only lsp we have found, changes every block and I can't do that, I have to be able to select just the Design Center objects.   :?   This is a tricky one.

THanks.
