WOW!!!! I Wish I had been the architect on that project.......Can you imagine.... the original estimate was £40m and it went to £140m I would expect that at least HALF of the extra £100m would have went to the design firm.....Whoa... I could RETIRE!!! who gives a crap if the darn thing ever got built! ......

The price now stands at £430 million and still rising.

As for the Architect, he kicked the bucket a while ago.  So at the public enquiry he's getting the blame.

as soon as I saw the price I knew what it referred to

and who's paying for the bloody thing that no-one wanted in the first place ? that's right US !

it makes some reading on how not to run a project... the foundations were poured about 6 or 7 times. the windows were made and didn't fit, more windows were made and didn't fit. then they omitted some windows because they took an average of 6 workmen about 8 days to fit each one. then they realised it was so complex they didn't know how to make it bomb-proof because of foreign terrorist threats..... the only people I know who want to bomb it is US... the tax payer.

oh no... just don't get me started on it !

Man, I had to read that twice....at first I thought it was the US that was paying for it and that the US wanted to bomb it..... BUT .. upon careful re-reading, I realized that we only want to help, perhaps by suggesting additional changes that need to be made to the design :yikes: and then offering no suggestions on how to implement them....:choke:

It's a complete fiasco... everyday at the enquiry we're being told about how some nonentity kept quiet because they thought they could bring the spiralling costs under control... yeah right....
if I remember correctly, at one point they even made the project director a 27 year old female who's never had ANY experience whatsoever in the civil field ... or of construction.... I think they sacked her after 6 months or so and gave her a golden handshake (or was that the "dome" ?)
in fact everyone who's ever had the misfortune... wait a minute.... the FORTUNE to be connected with this bloody building has been given a golden handshake of some sort.
and this is the same bunch of parliamentarian gentlemen who wish us to give them greater tax rasing powers HA ! my arse !
they want to tax us an additional 2p in the pound. Now, going by their previous record, that 2 pence will multiply to approximately 22 pence and rise

This is a prime example of too many cooks.

The British government is a joke.  Without a word of a lie there is currently a parliamentary enquiry under way into how to handle parliamentary enquiries!!!

As for the Scottish parliament, what a joke, we must be the laughing stock of the world.  :moon:

Good thing the US sees themselves as the world .. that cuts the laughing crowd down by some 300 million, give or take. As for the rest .. ha ha ha

Just kidding! ... (ummm, actually I never knew there was a Scottish parliament *shucks*)

UH....Come on guys .... it ain't that bad now is it?...
Now I don't quite understand the monetary divisions in UK (like how much is 2p in relation to £1 but let me tell you what I have experienced here.....
For every $1 earned by an american
7.2% Social Security (translate into socialism for those who have not saved for retirement)
0.45% for Medicare (medical care socialism for those who retire without any money, see line above)
28% Federal Tax
Now that is 35.65% tax leaving you $0.6435 for each dollar....
Of that $0.65 you spend an average of 5% on fuel..
or $0.03 now 30% of that is tax...
You now have $0.64
That is taxed when you send at an average of 7% or another $0.05 leaving you...
$0.59 of every dollar...
That is not taking into consideration that MOST people have a property tax, automobile tax, and utility tax.
When you work you are taxed,
Payroll tax
Income tax
Social Security Tax
Medicare Tax
Sales Tax
Property Tax
Fuel Tax
Energy Tax
TelephoneTax
Automobile Tax
Not to mention specialty taxes in some places such as:
State Tax
Investment Tax
Estate Tax
Water Tax
Garbage Tax
Recycling Tax
District Tax
City Tax
County Tax
School Tax

Damn... I wonder how we EVER keep any money ... hell we give it all to the Government.. and this BOZO Kerry who wants to be president dosn't think we PAY ENOUGH!!!...

Sorry maybe this should have mutated to the Vent forum....

In Britain we pay about 50% of our total income in taxes, 21% income tax, 9% national insrance, 10% council tax, 17% vat on everythng we buy, 1% car tax, 85% of our fuel costs are tax, plus tax on wine, spirits, beer, cigarettes, food, water, electricity, sewage, gas.

I'm surprised they don't tax us for paying tax.

I remember many moons ago, back when plastic lead was king and I lived in England, they had a tax on black and white TV's.. and it was cheaper than the color tv tax..   Then you had a tax if you had a water faucet outside your house.. I think they were over the number of bedrooms tax by then.. Can't remember all the other taxes but yes, it was amazing.  It's always nice to see other democracies are going thru the same thing that our federal and state governments here in the US are going thru.

Umm.. Does anyone remember plasting lead?? And lead holders?? Not this .5mm and .7mm stuff the kids use these days..
