Does anyone know how to fix this problem? I've tried redefining the block so the attribute references a style with asian characters (SimSun) but then the text shows up as ?????. I also installed both traditional and simplified chinese language packs.

ATTSYNC LOL The text shows up correctly with the SIMSUN style.

Indeed. Although I really don't see any readable difference between the chinese characters and the square signs, I can't imagine a reason why someone does not want the little squares. For me it is all chinese.
