Osnap & Dynamic Input
« on: November 10, 2011, 09:53:23 AM »
I've got a user who was griping about what he thought to be a bug.  He would select a line, hover over the grip and select Lengthen from the menu that pops up and then move the cursor in the direction he wants to stretch it, then enter a number, like .5 or 1 or whatever... a small number.  He expected the line to... become longer, hence the command, "LENGTHEN".  Well, the line was getting shorter.  So, I told him to try it again, but use a larger number like 50 and it worked as expected.  My next suggestion was to hit F3 to turn running Osnaps off and try it again.  It then worked as expected.  I don't know whether it was just a coincidence that it worked or what.  We've tried changing from absolute to relative coordinates and back, but seems to have little affect... is it being overridden by something else?

It's behaving differently on his PC than it is on mine.  While we look into it here (as we find the time), I thought I'd check with you folks to see what you'd have to say.

Try toggling the dynamic input on and off and see how it behaves. It can be odd sometimes.

I personally find that lengthen works best without using grips...YMMV

It's likely due to ignorance, but I don't even understand why LENGTHEN even exists as a command.  What was wrong with Stretch?  Extend?  The Grip, itself??!

In macros that command has been a lifesaver for me.
