Multiple select in FIELD
« on: September 19, 2008, 12:14:56 PM »
Hello All,

In 'FIELD' command, on objects. Is there a way (or customize) wherein you can select multiple objects. (See attached) once I click on this, it only allows me to select one object.

What Im trying to do is select multiple lines to get the total length. Any expert out there who can help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

A solution could be to use a hidden table.
Place the several fields with a length in a table and use sum to get a cell with the total length.
The value of that cell can be used with a field in a normal text.
See the attached drawing for an example.

if the lines are touching u might try to turn them into a polyline.
if not you can do what crank said , but i must tell you a secret i stumbled upon

putting fields inside of a field to eliminate the use of a table.

if you copy and paste the code at the bottom of the field that was generated from the length of each line into a filed you can add multiple fields by simple putting a + between them  its really cool because it doesn't require the use of a table

here we can see i have switched to formula and paste in what was the code into the formula area and vuwala the field appears and not the code i orignally copied

no we go around to each field we want in the formula and copy their codes one at a time and paste it into the formula field one at a time with a plus sign in between each field

now all the feilds of the lines i want add are in the formula and it is all interconnected
without the need for a table.
