AuotCAD 2006 profile resetting question
« on: February 01, 2008, 05:31:49 AM »
AutoCAD 2006.

I have a CAD technician who has a corrupt profile in AutoCAD 2006 (he tried to run and old 2002 profile, go figure!?) and his profile is now kaput. If I log onto his machine as myself, my profile through 2006 is fine.  My question is, how do I “reset” the technicians profile to the original default profile that is created when you first run AutoCAD 2006 as a user?  It’s a stand alone licence (he’s working in a small site office)

Thanks in advance

Try to export your 'good' profile and import that .arg file into his, and rename it the same as his old (better backup his old first).

i tried that, no luck. Older version sof AutoCAD ued to have the support directories (the ones wher it used to go and look for blocks and menus and linetype files etc.) already set.  In other words, the same support directories were used regardless of the user on the machine.  Newer versions, actually set a lot of your support directories as per your login, and your personal profile folders.  so, if i eas to give him my profile it wont solve his problem, as his problem is centred around the personal folders that autocad is supposed to set/create.

In essence, i wish to "reset" or "trick" AutoCAD into thinking that "Simon" is using AutoCAD for the first time on his machine and that will make (i Hope) AutoCAD create the relevant folders for him.  I will then tell him to create a backup profile for himself.

I tried to do a repair installation, but it doesnt really apply as AutoCAD is Actually working fine, just not his profile.

thanks for you input.

Under tools, options, profile, there is a reset button. Have his messed up profile set current and reset it.
This will then set it back to the installed default profile.

I'm not sure how you have set up your profiles, but unless you hard coded each individual path,
your should be able to mimic his with yours and the appropriate changes.

If all else fails and you are brave enough. Start, Run, regedit and enter the registry.

What profile names are you using? Is it just the un-named or set by user, client, company?
How do you incorporate your specific company search paths into this profile for your individual users?

If you open up your *.arg file or drop into your registry, your paths should be set by something similar
"TemplatePath"="%LocalRootFolder%\\Template"
"PlotLogPath"="%LocalRootFolder%\\"

The %variable name% is the part that changes for the different users. As long as your profile is
setup this way, it should work for him as well.

Hit us back and we'll help you out more.
