Problems Fixing Flat Area
« on: December 20, 2007, 03:30:27 PM »
I'm having a very hard time dealing with this flat area. I have a contour cutting across it (see img). I tried to delete the lines, but that leaves a void in the surface (see img). When I delete the interior lines for some reason it also deletes the one exterior one that I thought would stay. If I add it back it automatically adds another interior one causing the contour issue again. How can I fix this?

you may need to add a point to your surface such that it doesn't place a contour at the elevation across the 'flat' spot.

Like maybe an 11.99 point in the middle of that void?

I'd try adding one right on the boundary, then adding more, if needed, inside the void.

alternately, one could add a boundary that excluded that contour
or lift the contours from the surface model and 'gasp' delete the contour one doesn't like
both options leave ones design surface intact for volume calculation needs

why cant you just add lines connecting the tin across the "gap" and then add them to the surface?

The surface had originally triangulated across that area and the contour still went across. I tried removing the lines thinking it would fix the problem, but then it left the void. I tried to just draw a single line on the exterior to bridge the gap, but it added another interior line still and the contour remained, although it was in a different location.
I haven't tried adding the point yet. I'll do that and let everyone know the result. I'm guessing it will fix it.

Is this the sort of thing that a breakline might help?
