monochrome.ctb the dark secret is still a mystery

Hello Everyone

Can someone enlighten me on how the monochrome ctb code is electronically connected to the layer manager
lineweights.

Can this hidden code be exposed and used to do the same thing for the coloured ctb?

The reason for asking this question is to allow the whole office to use one standard coloured ctb but if  a special reason or special requirement is called for on a drawing, that one person can go and change "their" layer manager lineweights and get on with the job but keep the same colour on the screen, which is important when working in a large team on a large project.
In Autocad 2008 you can change the colours in the viewports thereby keep the same colours in the model space drawing or is this an Autocad work around for not being able to get the code to work on colour ctb?

I know that you can convert the mono to a colour ctb using the layer translator gives you the same line weights.

Is it possible for you experts to produce this code?

all the best

Sounds like you should be using the STB instead of the CTB for plotting.

If I understand your questions...The layer colors in the layer manager match to the pen settings in a CTB.  So color 2 is always pen 2 in the CTB, and pen 2 can be set to a line width and color.  The lineweights in the drawing would be set to default and the various pens can be set to colors or Black.  If a drawing needs to plot with thicker lines then assign a CTB that uses wider line settings.   Others can plot that drawing later using the CTB with thinner lines and color or black and white output.

Now what you do is set up multiple pagesetups that call the various CTBs and you can easily plot or publish the drawings using any of the CTB's you want.

IMO
If you can, you should consider switching to STB type controls.

Here are some threads that may be of intrest.

Hello everyone

many thanks for getting back to me, but the question is how is it you can operate the monochrome ctb file from the layer manager but not a coloured ctb, why is this.
What code connects the layer manager to the monochrome ctb file?  Why can't the same code work for coloured ctb files?

has anyone any information on this subject?

Hi Hornet.

I'm not sure what you mean here.
I made a pagesetup with monochrome ctb active then opened the layermanager expecting to be able to adjust the Plotsyle for each layer, but it is grayed out. Have you found a way to do this?

Just going out on a limb here...

Are you talking about the way that individual drawings can be set to use either CTB or STB files?  When the drawing is set to one type, the dialog boxes will not even acknowledge the existence of plot tables of the other type.  In other words, you only see .CTB files if your drawing is set to use CTBs, and vice-versa with STBs.

The only way I know of to change from one to the other is with the incredibly-clunky and mis-implemented CONVERTPSTYLES command.

If I understand correctly, you want to be able to change the lineweight and color of a layer independently while still using a CTB.  To do this, you need to set the lineweight in the CTB to "Use Object Lineweight".
