How much RAM for AutoCAD and its verticals
« on: February 07, 2007, 08:42:39 AM »
Hi one and all

I was just wondering how much RAM is minimum and desirable for AutoCAD and its verticals?

How much have you got, and what differences it makes :-)

Many thanks
T :-)
Thanks for explaining the word "many" to me, it means a lot.

I can get by with one gb, but it is not pretty.  Two gb works great and I don't think AutoCAD can effectively use any more than that at this time.  I would go with two and make sure there was room for two more with a future upgrade.

I'm currently running ADT at 512 and an 800MHz AMD processor. Of course, to do any rendering I'll most likely need at a minimum to double that. The good thing about having a slower system, is that it forces me to keep it simple while making it look interesting.

I run AutoCAD with 2 gig of ram, and it runs just fine.

I find that you can get by with 1 gig fine with 2007.  2gigs does me fine here at work without problems.

I find the limiting factor is normally the processor.  I have a 2g RAM, 3ghz pentium here at work, and it's my base for 'normal cad'ing'

I have a 1g RAM, 1.8ghz intel core 2 duo at home and it blows away my work comp.

Just an fyi. :)

I have 1.5Gb and sometimes that is slow; most of the time it is fine.  Windows won't recognize anymore than four unless you run X64.  All programs won't use more than 2Gb unless you utilize the /3GB switch on boot.

I say 4 GB of RAM
and a dedicated (second) disc drive for windows to use for the swap file space
As large a Video Card as one can buy

I believe you may also want to ask on what operating system you are going to be running Autocad and it's vertical applications.

I'm not sure of the memory requirements for Vista on it's own in addition to running software...
Are we talking 2006/2007 for Autocad version?

r12, would run really nice on any other these computers
