thanks for the info Mike,
I actually looked into the upgrade recently. It looks as though we’re going to go the Meridian way ~ not my choice but rather, an IT git’s way of “standardising” software in the company.
I’ve no doubts Meridian can do wonderful things but as far as I am concerned, it’s just waaayy over the top for my requirements. All I need is a version of AMW that’ll work with 2004 and above but autocashgrabbers have changed the ARX structure, so I doubt anyone is going to take the time to rewrite the ARX for AMW.
One of the other reasons for us staying where we are for the moment is that my colleagues in the USA have only had it running for about two years and they feel they haven’t had their money’s worth out of it yet, and as we still need to exchange drawings now and again, we don’t want to be incompatible.
The good side of moving to Meridian, is that as with AMW, no-one in the company knows anything about customising / programming it. It does mean that I’ll have to start learning Vbscript (I think that’s what Meridian is programmed with), but that gives me a skill that no-one else in the company has so it’s a point in my favour when it comes to “restructuring” the workforce. ~ if I hadn’t known anything about Lisp I would never have got to travel to the US a couple of times a year.
So I think I'll try and get Meridian in here within the next 6 months or so, then it'll give me a good reason for going to the USA to help roll it out over there.
