The ribbon
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:18:20 AM »

Im looking at setting up a new partial CUIX file.This will contain our custom menu buttons and I would also like to intergrate these into the ribbon, by customising it.What is the best method to bring these menu buttons into the ribbon?I've tried setting up a new panel, dragged over some menu buttons(from the partial CUIX) to this new panel(under all customisation files) and then dragged this panel to a tab.I apply, close and then look at my ribbon and there is no difference!
Things I'm not clear on here is:

Why is this newly created panel not showing up?
Can you create new tabs or are you just restricted to adding to the exsting tabs?I've tried creating new tab, but they don't display and arent available from the drop down.
The ribbon mods would need to be done in the partial cui, but in examples I've seen online its been done to 'all customisation files', this is no use if we want to tansfer the partial CUIX file to each PC.Surely the ribbon should be customised in the partial CUIX file.Has anyone else on here tried customising the ribbon?
Will I need to apply these ribbon changes to each workspace or can this be done globally on all?

I think the process depends on which release you are working with, and whether it is AutoCAD or one of the verticals.  One of the important things, is to make sure the tab is available under the desired workspace.  Most of the time, if its not in the workspace it won't show up.
If you are going to fly by the seat of your pants, expect friction burns.

try {GreatPower;}
   catch (notResponsible)
      {NextTime(PlanAhead);}
   finally
      {MasterBasics;}

I created my own separate tab and put all our company customizations on there, with various custom panels (just to group like commands together)

Thanks for your replies.

How does that work?Do you make your own custom tab contextual, so that it fires up when you associate it with a task?
I've been unable to create a new tab and it display on the ribbon afterwards.How do you manage to create your own tab and it display?Even the drop down to select the tabs to show doesnt list the tab I've created.

I created a partial CUI, in which I created a new ribbon tab, then created several panels for it.  Then using the CUI editor, I loaded the partial cui.  I selected my current workspace, and in the right window the customize workpsace button appeared.  by selecting the button, it allows you to place a check mark next to anything you want to show up (in the ribbon, toolbars, menus, etc.)  then you select finished customizing, hit ok, and it should be there.  My ribbon tab is not contextual, as it is more of a replacement for the menubar.  Instead of using dropdown menus, I have dropdown flyouts from an anchored-auto-hiden Ribbon.

Thanks alot,that worked great.One thing thats still playing up,is assigning the new tab to a contextual tab state.I've tried dragging the new tab to the contextual tab state,but get a no entry sign come up and it wont drop.Im doing this al in the partial CUI which I assume is the correct way.
