Topic: Pipe labels in Section Views

Am I missing something, or is the "Material" property for a pipe not a label option in section view labels?

For plan and profile labels, we use some combination of:

<[2D Length - Center to Center(Uft|P0|RN|AP|Sn|OF)]>-LF OF <[Pipe Inner Diameter or Width(Uin|P0|RN|AP|Sn|OF)]>-IN <[Material(CU)]> AT <[Pipe Slope(FP|P2|RN|AP|Sn|OF)]>

to get labels formatted as:  "275-LF OF 8-IN PVC AT 0.40%"

The <[Material(CU)]> option is missing for section view label styles - is there a workaround?

have you tried just typing that in? sometimes that works. if it does work, make sure you let product support know that it's missing from the available properties

Try the following:

have the Material property included, you can add this property to a part family using the following procedure.

To add the Material property to a part family

Open Part Builder by selecting Pipes menu  Part BuilderAt the Command prompt, enter PartBuilder.
The Getting Started - Catalog Screen dialog box is displayed.

In the Getting Started - Catalog Screen dialog box, open the desired pipe or structure part catalog.
For example, under Pipe  US Imperial Pipe Catalog  Circular Pipes , open the Concrete Pipe catalog by double-clicking it, or by clicking Getting Started - Catalog ScreenModify Part Sizes.

In the Part Builder left pane, right-click Size Parameters, and then click Add.
On the New Parameter dialog box, click Material, and then click OK.
Notice that when you do this, the Mat (material) property is added to the Edit Part Sizes dialog box. You may need to scroll to the right on this dialog box to see this property added.

Now that the Material property is added to this dialog box, you can configure the attributes for this property by clicking in the cell for each attribute.
For example, you may want this Material property to show or not show in Civil 3D drawings. Do this by setting the Visible attribute to True or False.

Make sure you set the Visible attribute to True so that the value for the Material property displays in the drawing.
Click OK on the Edit Part Sizes dialog box.
Click Save Part Family.
Now the Material property is available for parts in this part family. Using Civil 3D labeling features, you can add text to this property to identify the type of material used for the pipe. For more information, see Adding a Material Type to a Pipe or Structure Label.

If the PART Family doesn't have the material portion enabled, then it won't be an option for the part label.

Another Option in the Parts List Rename the part as 8" PVC, and then the part name will include size and material....

Looks like he has the material specified, Michael, but the Section labels don't include the option for the material. I just had a look and even copying the formatting from a profile label doesn't allow the material to be included in the section label. I tried this in 2010, btw.

Just another "feature" that has been overlooked.

Let me go get another coffee....DOH!  Section Labels....NOT plan and or profile labels.
