2008 migration file question...
« on: July 07, 2008, 11:24:59 AM »
I am now back to trying to migrate 2005 to 2008....some BASIC questions that have me stumped

after thinking I found the location of the cui file ....I migrated some menu's and everything froze up..upon further searching, I found cui's in 2 locations.....how do I know which one my acad is referencing?...my plan is to create an enterprise.cui on the network for everyone to share.

can you open a cui file ouside of acad to see what it looks like ---the way you could open  a .mns file in notepad?

ok....migration...a..well....sorta sucessful....

new questiions (sorry to abuse, but noone else here at work can help me..)

I created an enterprrise.cui, but how do I get extra things off the menu bar (used to  go tools/customize/menu and move things off)
if the ent.cui is read only?

if I bring up the cui box, I can see everything,, but cant do anything with it..
do I create a new one and save it over that one?

and once I turn off a toolbar, can I get it back w/out pulling it off of an old file???

uggggggggg....brain hurts.....

You have to temporarily set your Enterprise as "main", and your Main as "enterprise" (in the Options dialog box). Basically, it's not what's in a CUI that makes it enterprise, but which path in Options references it. If it's in the Enterprise path, it's read-only, so you have to switch it out. If you make changes often, you can set up profiles for each configuration.

Example:
Normal operation: Main = ACAD.CUI & Enterprise = OFFICE.CUI
Modifying OFFICE.CUI: Main = OFFICE.CUI & Enterprise = ACAD.CUI

I even keep backup copies of my CUI backup ( about 4 of them to be exact).
I learned the hard way when Acad 2007 mashed up my backup copy immediately on loading it.. just after it mashed up the main CUI.

aaaaahaaaaa.....just reread chapter 5 and thought that might be it.......it is the path..not the file........so the moral of the story is ...dont edit the main.cui on a bad or off day.........

thanks!

Another way is to just make "OFFICE.CUI" a partial menu to the main. Forget about an "enterprise" menu.
You don't have to mess with menu switching to edit "OFFICE".

but isn't the point of the enterprise to have a single file on a network used by everyone, if you use a partial menu on the network, isn't it still just a partial enterprise? (not sure if that is clear-or not?)

That is what our partial menu does. Never saw a reason to worry about an "enterprise" menu.
