Wow, yea... happens in 2008 as well, for me.
I'm going to start with a fresh Drawing1.dwg and see if I can do it using a clean drawing and 'clean' solids.

yep... I used two boxes via the BOX command, and one extruded rectangle in a clean slate... same problem.
That's just... funny-annoying.
