HP Designjet 1055cm PLUS - HPGL2 or RTL drivers ?
« on: August 06, 2004, 01:58:05 AM »
We're currently setting up a new HP Designjet 1055cm PLUS plotter and when installing the drivers it's asking which ones we'd like (IT Dept. is installing them and they asked me which ones).

We're installing the HPGL2 drivers for the moment.

What is the difference and which would you suggest for the following ?

Windows2000
AutoCAD2002

Will be used for mainly AutoCAD plotting with some PDF and ArcMAP plotting.

Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

It's so shiney and new.

I would set one of each up and take a file and plot it with both drivers.
There will probably be a performance difference with one or another.
I would pick a complexe drawing that would represent everything that you would normally place on a drawings. Linework, hatching, images, excel spreadsheets etc...

That's what I would do. You may find that one is a lot faster or not so demanding on your system and network. Check print spool file size as well.

Get used to the RTL. My understanding is that 2003 and above do not support HPGL2. Sooner or later that's gonna bite you in the butt.

Thanks for that.

As they've already set up the HPGL2 drivers I think I'll get them to install the RTL as well, test a couple of drawings and blow the other away.

I'll tell IT that the HPGL2 are not supported in later version of AutoCAD so that they don't complain too much.
