LDD Disappeared?
« on: December 18, 2007, 04:58:42 PM »
Hi,

Just sifting through the job ads and wondering why Land Development Desktop seems to have disappeared from employers list of skills required?

The software 12D seems to have overun it?

Why has LDD marketing let this happen?

Regards,
John

Well, the last significant improvement to LDD was made probably six years ago.  You can't expect software to sit stagnant that long and still be in demand.  Most companies around here are still using LDD for at least the majority of their work, but most people are starting to move toward some other software, since LDD is in its last days.

What country are you seeing 12D want-ads in?  I've heard of that in places like Australia and South America.  Autodesk's replacement for LDD is Civil-3D, and many people around here are moving in that direction now.  A few others are going to Carlson's offerings, and of course the local DOT is still in the Bentley world.

Like the board draftsman with his T-square, triangles, and handy dandy Leroy set before it, LDT is being phased out. It was inevitable.

I am with Sinc on the 12D, I've never heard of it outside the Australia/New Zealand areas.

Thank you, very interesting.

Looks like it has happened to me again and I am guilt of not keeping up with software development.

I better get a copy of 12D in Australia and switch over to it. :-o although if you do not do drains, roads and bridges there is little interest in a guy's skill set anyway. :-)

This happened to me with Eagle Point's LandCADD and had to go to LDD. :-)

JB

If I recall correctly, the internal codename for LDD 2007 beta testing was "dusk", if that tells you anything.  Autodesk is pimping C3D from now on out.  FYI, I'm in the US and have never heard of 12D.  I may have seen a few women with 12Ds though! (oxymoron?)  :-)

Yep, googling 12D sofware returns quite a few impressive chests. :-)
