STILL BEHIND
« on: May 18, 2007, 09:29:41 AM »
OK, the company has finally allowed us to upgrade to LDD7. All I loaded was LDD7 and the Survey module, so it seems I am not getting a lot of the problems others have run into. YET.
Two quick questions:
(1) What's with this "highlightinf" of the lines as you run across them or when you select by window or crossing? Can I turn that off? It's kind'a annoying.
(2) I have reconfigured my toolbars the way I want them. I checked the "lock docked toolbars" thingie. When I select to go to another workspace, all of that disappears and the "default" toolbars come back. Someone mentioned that I needed to "save my current cui file." Whut? How do I do that?

Please remember to keep you answers simple because you are dealing with the simple.

The object hi lighting can be turned off in Options>>Selection>>Visual Effects Settings.

Yes you will want to create your own CUI.  And even doing this will not 100% guarantee that your tools will always assume the position you want them in. The CUI has issues.

A pre-emptive suggestion:

This came up a lot when I did tech support for LDT'07- If you want to use any of the Curve commands from the Lines/Curves menu, go to Options and on the Selection tab under Selection Preview, uncheck 'When a command is active.'  If you leave it checked for some reason it goes through them command and then nuttin' happens.

How does one "create" a CUI file, or is that an evil question? Am I about to release the deamons? :|

One invokes the Demon CUI @ command line, CUI!
moments later, the CUI interface appears.........

It is advised that you do not simply perform a SAVE AS, as this will leave the current CUI.dll file unaffected and your menu icons will mostly become ????s.

Work from the TRANSFER tab, and on Left Panel drop down select NEW, this will become your CUI (menu) file. On Right panel open any existing CUI files and Drag and Drop from Right to Left the commands and or work spaces (menu palettes) you want your CUI to contain.  Set the CUI file you just saved as the MAIN CUI, under OPTIONS>>Files>>Customization Files>>Main CUI

I never saw that issue, and I leave "When a command is active" checked at all times.  We used LDT 2007 quite a bit, too.  Maybe it was fixed in SP1?  LDT 2007 was practically unusable without SP1, due to the crashes on save.

I think they used wrong terminology, and were telling you to "save your current Workspace".  When you make any change to your workspace, such as add/remove/move a toolbar or tool palette, make sure you save the changes to your workspace.  Easiest way is using the Workspace toolbar - click on it, do "Save current as", then find your current workspace in the dropdown list and overwrite it.

You can also configure this thing to "autosave" any changes you make to your workspace, but personally I don't like that option.

More workspace info:

Workspaces define the layout of toolbars, menus, etc. on the screen.  They reside in your Main and/or Enterprise CUIs, and you can have more than one Workspace in each CUI.  Workspaces in the Enterprise CUI are read-only.  Workspaces in Partial CUIs are not visible, and must be transfered into either your Main or Enterprise CUI if you want to use them.

Autodesk seems to think we should use Workspaces to define "task oriented" layouts of toolbars and menus, but I find that annoying.  It takes too long to switch workspaces, and I always find myself needing a toolbar or menu that is in another workspace.  Instead, I use a single workspace all the time, which has all the tools I regularly use easily-accessible.  I then use one workspace for each monitor setup I use.  For example, I have one workspace setup for my single 20" monitor at work, but I have another workspace setup for my 20" + 17" dual-monitor setup at home.  I generally never change my active workspace while I'm working.

You might want to leave that turned on.  It can be annoying at first (one of my co-workers called it "Vegas Jackpot highlighting"), but it's really quite useful.

The only thing you might want to do is change the options.  In 2007, this highlighting was vvveeerrrryyyy ssssllllllloooowwww, especially on MTEXT objects.  Going to Options->Selection->Visual Effect Settings and changing the effect from "Both" dash and thicken to just "Dash" makes a huge difference.

Yep, every class I had to go explain it and about every other tech support call when 07 was being installed at clients'.  Even checked my current install (SP2A) at my new job and it's still at it.  Maybe it's a regional release thing.  I don't recall our east coast offices having any trouble with this sort of thing.

I just tried it, too, and I do not see the issue (SP2a).  All the Curve commands are working fine.
