on my desktop short my target has the following......

"C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3\acad.exe" /t "tpg.dwt" /p "C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3\adt.arg"

I can't seem to find the tpg.dwt file....anywhere...not on my desktop nor the server.....so where is autocad put the template file....little confused here....does it automatically default to the acad.dwt on my desk top.....or what....

it hides it in your docs and settings under your name\application data\autodesk\...\template\tpg.dwt

You cant find it because your folder settings are set to hide system\hidden files.

ok in options, where are your templates located?  that should give you the path

templated points back to my server.....but the tgp.dwt file does not exist there....in fact it occurs in one spot..and that's in a zip file....I am wondering if Autocad just defaulting to the acad.dwt file on the desktop.....

You may want to take the file out of the zip and put it in the location that Autocad points to in your search paths... Soounds like the file was accidently deleted off of the network...

I have done a couple of things....and this why I am puzzled....first ....
windows is setup to see hidden files and folders....so you would think that under

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Autodesk\AutoCAD\Recent...there would be a template folder...not here....so I did a wildcard search *.* in the whole Recent folder....nothing...

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Local Settings\Application Data....no Autdesk folder

C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Templates.....no Autodesk folder....

so I went back to C:\Program Files\Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3\Template and there is no tpg.dwt to be found....

so I went into Autocad "Options\Files\Drawing Template File Location....nothing there...but 4 autocad files....

my problem is this....when someone double clicks the autocad icon on their desktop....a file is created with the same layer combinations....which is weighing down the file and then they have to be purged....I am trying to clean this up from the get go....and fix other things with in this mysterious template file.... :|

I would either put the correct template file in the location that Autocad is looking for, Or
get rid of the template reference in the startup icon.

It all depends on what you are after.
