ESRI mxd files

anybody know how to convert mxd files to dwg? or is it impossible.

ESRI .mxd are Map Documents. There is no straightforward procedd to go from .mxd to .dwg. you need to open the .mxd look at the layers and see if they are .shp or GEO DataBases. If you are on Autocad Map 3d you can import the shape files fairly easily. If they are geodatabases then there are a couple of steps to convert from geodb to .shp to .dwg.

thanks for the info. gisdude...i dont think ill be using autocad for this. so ill have to learn arc gis....

if you need help, just give a shout.

i did the opposite of you for CAD/GIS. I got hired as a GIS Analyst and had to learn CAD. it was kind of a "shift" in my thinking, but a welcome one. i learned python scripting for ARcGIS --> now i'm starting to pick up LISP scripting for CAD. it's a wonderful world out there of programming languages!

btw - this is a great forum. kinda like the augi people, very knowledgeable and willing to lend a hand.
