Title: AutoCAD Mechanical (note - NOT Mechanical Desktop)
Post by: ChrisSolid on March 09, 2006, 05:05:49 PM
I had to put that little parenthetic addendum in my title, because I've noticed that if you just say "Mechanical", at least 65% of the responses are about Mechanical Desktop, not Mechanical, which points to the stupidity of having 2 names so similar.

I'd like to hear from anyone who regularly uses Mechanical - How is it working for you? I've just gotten a trial version of it and will somehow try to find time to learn it. I just started looking in the help file today, and didn't notice any mention of tablet use. Horrified, I then searched through the AutoDesk Users discussion group under their heading for Mechanical, and could not find any mention of the searchword "tablet" (well, there was just one, but nodoy'd answered it in the over 2 years that thread's existed). Is there really no support for a tablet??

Been using 2K4 mechanical......to my knowledge there is no longer support for tablets, but I've been wrong before.  Actually, I got mech in hopes that it would help in my 3D work...extra libraries etc... but it didn't do what I'd hoped.  Will be going back to vanilla CAD and 2K7...hopefully...this fall.
Sorry that I couldn't be of more help................

Just received a free trial also

Would someone please comment on the difference from autocad 2004 to mechanical 2006

Will our 2004 autocad drawings open in mechanical 2006?

Is there a web site that can help me out?

Can We open IGES or STEP files in mechanical?

Is there a benefit going to mechanical over autocad 2007?

Thanks in advance

I have AutoCAD Mechanical 2005 loaded although my background is electrical design. I have fooled with it and it seems like a poor mans Inventor. I suggest you either stick with Vanilla or fork out the cash for Inventor.
