Title: Which Visual Studio 2005 Product
Post by: HD on January 31, 2006, 06:18:14 PM
Hello!

I was just wondering which Visual Studio 2005 product people have bought or are thinking of buying. I was going purchase VS 2005 Professional. Based on Microsoft's VS 2005 comparison chart (http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/products/compare) , I am kind of leaning towards VS 2005 Standard.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

I'm currently testing with a 90 day trial version of Pro.

I believe the Standard Edition has Optimisation limitations ..

The Upgrade cost here <Australia> is considerably different

Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition    $945.00
Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition        $337.00

That seems to be too big a difference just for optimisation ? ?
I hadn't considered a language specific IDE yet.

I'd be interested in a qualified comment too.

I bought the Pro Edition simply because I had budgeted more than enough to cover it.

But the Standard Version was tempting due to Kerry's observation.

Hi Nick,

I purchased the standard edition and I am very happy with it. All the versions have the same optimizations if you’re programming with .NET as the compiler comes with the .net framework. The standard version does ship with the optimizing C++ compiler which is cool and I didn’t need the server explorer or the crystal reports features.
