Title: 'DPI to Raster'

I often have to export a CAD floor plan to a .wmf, to be used in a different software.

I have noticed that while in AutoCad, with the 'properties' box open, & nothing selected, there is something called 'DPI to Raster' of which you can change the value. I have changed the value from the default value of 300 to 500, 1000, 5000 & 10,000. None of these changes changed the file size / DPI of my .wmf image. The .wmf images were all 744x408.

I don't know if this makes a difference, but I typically run my screen resolution at 800x600.

I know that if I take my screen resolution to it's maximum of 1600x1200, then do my 'Export to .wmf', the resulting image has a much better looking higer DPI.

What is this 'DPI to Raster' option on the 'Properties' box for?

Or, am I doing the process wrong?

What it explained wouldn't work in LT, but it got me thinking of it a different way.

So, I figured out how.

When I export images out to raster I usually narrow the window size (or expand it) to what my extents of the capture will be. I think your output will be dependant upon the applications window size + current resolution. You have to use the trial/error method to get exactly what you want (in my experience).

On another note, WMF is the best way to go for crisp raster images.

As far as the DPI to Raster, I don't have that in 04

I found that if I choose Plot / 'Publish to Web.jpg' as my plotter, it allows me to choose my DPI.

The resulting pic looks VERY nice & the file size is pretty small.

Actually WMF is a vector file which is why it scales up and down nicely when imported into Word, PowerPoint, etc...  AutoCAD 2006 does not have the DPI to Raster option in Properties either. Maybe it's something germain to LT.

Forgot about that. D'oh!

I use the long route still. WMFout, open in Photoshop, SaveForWeb...

Then there's always Distiller, same as Publish...jpg, 'cept you have to open it and saveas in a compliant app.

Sheesh...

What will those crazy folks at Autodesk think of next...?
