Title: Current state of DWG Preview handler?
Post by: Peter2 on December 20, 2022, 11:46:12 AM
I googled around to find some information of the DWG preview handler to display a "dynamic" preview in MS Explorer like this

https://ww3.cad.de/foren/ubb/uploads/Gigerota/pdf.jpg

(so I'm not talking about creating and viewing thumbnails)

Very old information says it was installed with previous AutoCAD version.
Semi old information says it was installed with "DWG TrueView"
Now it seemts that it is not available with Autocad nor DWG Trueview nor Bricscad.

is it right?
Or does someone knows a solution? Maybe with a 3rd party tool?

Thanks and regards

Seem to be a less viral topic ;-)

Does anyone know https://longbowsoftware.com/previewer ?
Good product? or not?

I have had the Longbow Previewer for a few years now.
It does give a better preview than without it and gives you useful info about the file by simply previewing it.
However, after using it to preview DGN Microstation files where it lets you zoom and pan around the drawing, I wish that it would do that for DWG files. I do have MicroStation installed so I don't know if previewing DGN files in window explorer doest zoom and pan stuff without Longbow being installed...
The enlarged preview that it produces is static and is dependent on the last saved view when the file was closed. So there isn't much control in that realm. But I really like it and the price is reasonable.

Thanks, trogg

they told me just now:
"Currently, it is raster based but we are moving to vector soon!"

I think I will try it..
