Title: Match mtext formatting in table cells
Post by: Dave M on May 14, 2020, 04:10:34 PM
I have a table that is using Lucida Sans Unicode for the text style.  There is no italics setting to use in the style, but I can go into the mtext editor and select italics.  Is there a way to paint that format to all the cells?  I have tried, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Thanks for looking

You can set the style using that font to have an Oblique angle.

Thanks, I should have said that I already tried that, it just doesn't look the same as when I click the italics button in the mtext editor.

Dave,if you edit the contents of a single cell, highlight all the text in the cell, the ribbon gives the option to use italics. Click that option and exit the edit. Now select that cell, click and start to drag the lower right grip, rt. click, select fill formatting only, then drag to the end of the column. This image is from me doing these steps and also uses the same font you mentioned.

I followed your instructions, but it still didn't work.  Your instructions were clear and I followed them exactly. I'm no sure what is going on.  Here is a copy of the file I was using.  If you have time see if it works for you.  BTW this is a 2016 formatted file.  I tried it in 2018 and it didn't work there either.  I wouldn't have to do this exercise at all if Microstation had a good table option like AutoCAD.

Thanks again for the help

Weird, it's not working in your drawing, nor in another one of mine. Yet it does work in other drawings. I have no idea why...

Dave, this is a workaround that isn't real elegant and not very good for existing tables...but I was able to get the formatting to copy in the sample dwg you sent if I chose to "Copy Cells". So in a new table, enter the data for the first row, edit the text in the column you want in italics, then use the copy cell all the way down the column. Then go back and edit the rows as needed, the formatting will still remain.
