Title: C3D 2015
Post by: Mark on December 15, 2014, 09:25:08 AM
Maybe its just our setup but this is a very buggy version.

After a grueling assessment, it was determined that there was NO compelling reason to even bother installing 2015.

List of NEW features:

Opens 2014 and saves without 'corruption' so that file can be re-opened in 2014.

Everything else....was just fluff.

"Official"  List of improvements:

Enhancements to labels - ability to change object reference on labels such as surface contours, slope, spot elevation and alignment station/offset
Profiles
Can create a pass through vertical curve, and then change the constrain parameter to make it based on length or k factor
New Extend Profile command to extend profiles to the end of profile views
New Anchor to Geometry tools.  You can now set profile IP's to move relative to changes in alignment geometry, instead of being based on chainage
Ability to show true section slices through solids on profile views
Corridors
When you replace similar subassemblies, you now have an option to maintain the targets
Improved sampling for width targets - can set up corridor to automatically increase sampling when targets are applied
Corridor solid extraction is now on the ribbon
Sections
Create sample lines now has an option to increment sample lines from a selected start station
Pipes can show cut sections on the section views
Corridor code labels can be included on the section views and now stagger
Can export to KMZ format
Various improvements to Subassembly Composer

All stuff that most of us have found a way to live with already....

the stuff that we have asked to be fixed, like Pipe Networks, gravity, and or pressure Labels, part builder, etc....NOPE nothing there.
Thanks for paying, er I mean playing.

The sheet tabs changing positions is quite annoying.

This is also annoying:

Fact is this is not a NEW tool only some mods to one that was already in 2014.

Are either of you members of the various Civil 3D portals over at beta.autodesk.com?  :-)

And this would benefit us how?

And are they taking new members?

I am not, no.

I am not, no.

You might find it useful, as you have direct access to some of the key staff involved in the product's design, and are often able to test planned enhancements in advance, report bugs, in addition to making feature requests, etc. that others can also vote for.

Cheers

NOTHING for Civil3d (US)  a few things for RSA....although most of us do not live or work in South Africa.

A few entries for Infraworks.....again confirming that they are actually killing support and or development for civil 3d at this time.

Michael, not sure where you get the idea they are not developing C3D. I have not been to the main page of the beta.autodesk.com in a long time, so maybe there isn't anything listed there. However, if you would LIKE to be involved in C3D's future, send an email to civil3d.futures@autodesk.com requesting to be added. Note that you will be required to sign an NDA prior to joining, but there is plenty of discussion going on.

Mark, get the Hot Fix (http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad-civil-3d/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-C2-AE-autocad-C2-AE-2015-layout-tab-order-shifting-hotfix.html?v=2015) for this.

Sweet! Thank you Jeff.

Turn that frown upside down, Michael... Guess I should have mentioned that this is but one of many invitation only portals.  :-D *oops*

Thanks Jeff for posting the email for Civil 3D Futures.

Well, perhaps Labs Project Kameleon (https://beta.autodesk.com/callout/?callid=081ACFC354594A6C8808DF7B7C0C382C) (new version of 2014/2015 Bridge Modules (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?159084-Bridges-and-Civil-3D)) will?  :-)

Cheers

The part authoring workflow is tightly integrated with InfraWorks, and includes the ability to post new part catalogs to InfraWorks models.

Again NOTE lack of Civil3d support or development....

So... You haven't actually checked it out for yourself... Got it.

Just noting that it focuses on being compatible with Infraworks.....
also, given the history of these 'technology previews' and how often than not they are not included in any final build....is it really worth
vesting in using something that will not be available for production use any time soon, if ever?  (read never)

Trust me, I don't like being so negative towards Autodesk.
However they have failed to deliver real product improvements for so long....
I would really like to believe "there is a pony in there somewhere"...but for too long all I've seen is the manure

If you thought the 2014, or 2015 Bridge Modules were lacking (both optional, separate downloads from Subscription Center, Product Enhancements [not Labs]), I'd encourage you to check out Kameleon... That's it.

It is, what it is... I'm not here to be their advocate either... I work with they're products because their superior to alternatives for the successful, and profitable completion of our work. To that end, I take it upon myself to be as proficient as possible with the tools I require for my work, and to help others along the way. Nothing more.

I simply wanted to share, if not reiterate, that your more critical comments here *may* be better directed in a forum where you have the possibility of directly interacting with some of the key product development staff, and management... Entirely your, and others' prerogative.

Please take from my comments what you like.

Cheers

[Edit] - I can haz a grammer.

I did, and have set aside some time to thoroughly evaluate.

However, reading through the response to some user issues already, note that this project
was not driven by users wanting more, better or easier tool to use instead of Part Builder.
The driver for this project was to make Civil 3D more Infraworks compatible.

That is almost an understatement with regards to Civil 3D. We have transitioned away from Civil 3D to a rivals package (12d) and it works much better for us [works out of the box so to speak, easier to use and customise, more powerful design options, faster & next to no crashes]. It is now a pain for our designers when work has to be done on legacy projects in Civil 3D.
