Title: Detailed Designation
Post by: Mark on July 08, 2014, 11:15:56 AM
On multiple sheet plan sets, is it proper to use the same detail designation on each sheet? For example; sheet 2 has 3 details A,B & C. Sheet 3 has 2 details A & B. And the detail would be labeled as "see detail 'A' this sheet".

hope that makes sense!

That is how we do it we do except we use numbers but, we do not refer to the detail or the sheet numbers. We call out the actual name of the detail and the sheet name. That is because through the course of a project sometimes details are added or deleted and the sheets need to be rearranged. Not referring to the numbers eliminates the need to go back through the plans and adjust the call outs. This has saved us a lot of time and eliminated a lot of errors.

Interesting idea!
How do you get it to fit the names into the section tags?

Good point. Sections are done the traditional way with section letters and sheet numbers (if they don't appear on the same sheet as where they are pulled from) and once set-up usually remain static, unlike the details.

With some customization to make it bit more to our needs, but just using whats out of the box works nice.
Just spend a little time creating blocks and a minute for each detail one time just to clean up a little and create a Named view of detail and is well worth it.

If you want to go with NCS they say you number a detail with letter and number of what grid it falls in on sheet, as in picture but I just use number and call out with reference key

Sorry about writing with trackball but text too small see

We use a modified Navy standard where each section cut bubble has two drawing numbers in the lower part of the bubble, the first drawing number for the sheet where the first section cut is made, and the second drawing number for the sheet where the section is shown.  Applies to details, too.

It confuses everybody and when discussed, it sounds like an Abbot & Costello routine.
