Title: How well does AutoCAD Architecture 2009 and Revit 2009 play together? If at all.
Post by: Robb on October 03, 2008, 06:01:31 PM
What am I able to do with both these software not that it is available in my Revit Arch 2009 Suite?

I know Revit can import\export to AutoCAD but will exporting from Revit retain model information that can be used in AutoCAD Arch? Don't know if a Revit door will now become a ADT door?
Can AutoCAD Arch models objects be exported into Revit and how much object data is retained or lost?

Trying to figure out how to get my people working in one or both software efficiently.

What is the best approach to start off the design of a project? Arch or Revit first? and then is one imported into the other to take the project further? or is a pick and choose which software is best for a project and use that from start to finish?

from another document I found:

Are AutoCAD Architecture software and Revit Architecture software files interoperable?
You can exchange drawing information (2D DWG files) between AutoCAD Architecture and Revit® Architecture software through their respective export to AutoCAD features. You can also export files from AutoCAD Architecture and import them into Revit Architecture software using the International Alliance for Interoperability’s Industry Foundation Class (IFC) standards.
In addition, Revit Architecture software has the ability to read and write ACIS® solids. This capability gives users a way to export their models from AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD® MEP software and import or link 3D information to Revit Architecture software.

I've successfully exported a Revit architectural file to a 3D Architecture drawing using Revit Structure 2009.  I don't have Revit Architecture, but I've got to imagine that the export settings are the same.  I'm not sure how much of that information is retained.  I.E.... I don't know if a brick wall with an 1-1/2" air gap with 5/8" gyp board will come across the same in AutoCAD Architecture.  But I do know that a wall from Revit will come in as as AutoCAD Architecture wall... same for doors, windows, roof slabs, floor/ceiling slabs.
