I never did get it resolved.

I opened the two test drawings on the post and can cut and paste between them with no errors, the plot styles go a bit nuts but thats it.

**edit**
plot styles didn't go nuts, I pasted to one of my drawings with the same plot style name but different text size
and I'm using Vanilla 2008.

well this is a problem with 2004 I think. I can open the same two dwgs in 2007 or 2008, and have NO problem copying and pasting. Open the same dwgs with 2004, no chance.

I tried the supposed "hotfix" but to no avail.

do both your 2007 and 2008 versions have the current service packs installed?

probably not. I say that only cuz our IT isn't much of a CAD manager, and we don't have a CAD manager. So updates from Autodesk are blocked. Installation is on HD and not from the server.

I would definitely recommend you download and install the service packs.

i don't have permission to install service pack. And I'd rather keep my arm and leg to get that permission, if ya know what I mean.

you do mean the servicepack 1a for 2004, right?

You need to service pack all autocad versions.

The service packs are to fix bugs with the software, to not install them is just not worth it, any IT person worth their salt would see the benefit of having all software running correctly, if they won't service pack software they are nuts.

Service pack one for 2008 fixes this issue

Copy/paste now works in the drawings saved as 2000 and then resaved in AutoCAD 2004, AutoCAD 2005, or AutoCAD 2006

Service pack two for 2007 also fixes the same issue

# The following operations now perform correctly in files saved in AutoCAD 2000 and Release 14 file formats from AutoCAD 2007:

    * Copy and Paste
    * Cut and Paste

I used TrueConvert and saved back to ver 14 then opened in ACAD2000.
It will not allow any copy & paste within the DWG.
Also opened in ACAD2006, stil no Copy & Paste.
The Copy showed 1 object found bur no paste,

I noticed thet there is a DXF code 370 in most objects, even when I add a LINE the code is there.
(370 . -1)
This in not in my other drawings & something is adding it within this drawing.
That's all I have time for..

Oh, I used MP's (c:getproxies  and it generated an error.

copy and paste is a known issue, but you need to service pack to overcome it.

okay, I just got finished talking with IT, and she said soon I'm having to upgrade from 2004 to 2007 anyways. So that will just send me back to the drawing board

hope that don't make my custom menu obsolete!

your upgrading to 2007, just as 2009 is about to come out.

That's some IT department you've got there.

I feel i have encontered this problem before, and i have alos found a solution.

When drawings have been created in AuotCAD 2006 or higher, and have been backsaved to an older version say 2000, certain "reactors" (excuse my terminology here, i am not a software guy, ironically i'm a CAD manager, so i suppose i am).  this means that some drawings bieng worked on in that lower version of AuotCAD (say 2002) copy and past AND wblock and block creation is disabled/blocked in laymans terms "broken"

Solution:

Download True drawing convert (or what ever they call it now).  open the affected drawings save them back up to 2007/2008 and then resave them back down to the version/format you require.

Below is an older link to the very topic on the Autodesk website:

hope this helps, just trying to give something back

thanks for the info...

that would work for me, but only once. Just as soon as I close the dwg, someone else with 2007 or 2008 opens and saves it again, rendering it useless to me again. I'm having to keep TrueConvert open and running, with the engine already runnin hot as it is!!

Autodsek have a fix for the people that are using the AutoCAD release that is causing the problems.  The link to the website below may help your problem further:

http://images.autodesk.com/adsk/files/cut_and_paste_hotfix0.htm

This need to be applied to newer version that is causing the problems.

This should prevent further isntances of theis happening from that workstation

I hope this helps

I have a survey drawing that I am working with that is not allowing ACAD2k to Copy & Paste.
What I have found is that some objects have Te DXF codes pairs in a strange order.
This may be nothing to do with the problem.

I was able to use Express tools 'Copy To Layer' to create new objects, so that means we
can create our own Copy & Paste Routine.

Also to get around the WBLOCK not working & use my EntityMaker.lsp which creates a lisp
file that when run will create the copies of the objects.

In this particular drawing I can Copy & Paste the New objects, but in the Test.DWG posted
in this thread even the new objects I created could not use Copy & Paste.

Just some of my observations.
