Title: damn smilies
Post by: ELOQUINTET on February 12, 2004, 08:28:23 AM
hey as some of you might be aware of i am trying to build a custom toolbar which i will be sharing with my coworkers. well i have setup everyone except my boss who is using acad 2000. i have not done so because when i did try to load my toolbar the only icons he had were guess who. i created a .dll and it works fine on everyone elses but his. i know the simple solution would be to tell him to update to adt 3.3 like the rest of us but he's comfortable with his setup so... any suggestions?

are the menu files on a server or are you installing on each machine?

Making sure that the dll file is in the same directory as the menu file is necessary as well.  You may have already done this, but I just thought I'd mention it.

i'm basically taking a folder called autocad and copying it to their c: my documents. this folder contains everything, the menu files, the .dll, the .bmps and the lisps themselves. then i put that folder in the search path and menuload. it works great on all other machines but his. is this possible to do with 2000? i noticed that when i go to toolbars it does not allow me to click on the button and repath the icon. maybe i should load it onto his machine and open the .mns and see how that looks huh. can't do an troubleshooting now but i'm just collecting ideas from you guys. thanks

Here's an idea. Tell him that since Autodesk no longer supports the 2000 release, that you're not able to either, and to be able to be supported, he should upgrade his install. It's not like upgrading is going to be a problem like in the past. You upgrade now, and AutoCAD remembers the way it was before. Pretty straight forward.

easier said than done. alot of people here are clueless when it comes to "advanced" autocad, my boss still goes to the pulldowns to edit text woah, but i'm trying to spawn their interest by waving the carrot in front of them so to speak.

Have you tried deleting the .mnr file so it will recompile?

Yep........I made a dll file (with the help of Mark's tutorial) and distributed a toolbar to 5 computers. When I added buttons to that toolbar and redistributed the dll and toolbar, the new buttons added showed smiley faces. I deleted the .mnr......restarted cad and that fixed it.

ah so that's how you do it. i've been making additions to mine and updating the dll but the mns file always has icon*** instead of what i assign to the buttons and i had to redefine it. so is this how i solve the problem. by the way mark many thanks for the tutorial and when i lost my menu   i'm finally getting the hang of some of this stuff grrrrrreat

How do you make a custom DLL?

Also, is it possible to export a tool bar in AutoCAD, so I can have a copy of my custom commands in case of reloads/new job.

*****Edit*****

Scratch that, I've just found Marks tutorial on how to do it.

Hey, I hacked the acadres.dll and replaced the smiley with . I then made sure I had at least one smiley on my custom toolbar. Incedently, the reason was that  more adequately represents the users frame of mind when the little bugger shows his face.

You know! As I look at your post and the one above, I'd say this one ->                clearly defines (represents) what should be in place of the smiley. It would be as if it were saying: "You messed up again". too bad menu's only support bmp's.
