Title: planting my seed (no dent not that one)
Post by: ELOQUINTET on October 15, 2004, 04:07:58 PM
i thought i used to be able to select read only in thr porperties of a folder and it could not be renamed. i'm trying to put a seed file in the server but i would like to make it so that the person has to copy and rename it before they can open it or something like that. i don't want to have to continually replace the seed because someone forgot to copy it before renaming it. does anyone have a suggestion?

If the file is stored onthe server as read only, the user can open it, but cannot save it back (through AutoCAD anyway) .. they can saveas... or they can browse to the file through Windows, select the file and rename it,  it will allow the rename so long as the user selects OK on the file rename alert window.

I know that is not what you wanted to hear, but alas, it is how it works...

You can also have AutoCad Automatically use that file as a template everytime AutoCad is started. Save it as a DWT and use a /t in the AutoCad shortcut
