(Microstation) Dimensions
« on: July 04, 2007, 01:18:20 PM »
Going through the tutorials, in a dim style, how does one set the units to show ' (feet) and " (inches),  not "ft" and "in"?

PS:
Thanks!

Under the 'Units' menu, adjust your label format to MU and SU (master units and subunits). Take a look at the image - to the right of the Master Units (Survey Feet) and Sub Units (Survey Inches) are two more boxes (that say plain ol' feet and inches). It is in these boxes all the way to the right that you may adjust the label to read anything you'd like. Let me know if this makes sense or not.

Makes perfect sense. I never thought to input anything in those boxes, I just imagined they were set with the units
One thing I didn't understand. It seems the sub unit box would not update unless I changed the "Label Format" (MU Label SU Label to MU Label-SU Label, or vice versa), save, yes/all, then back to the original Label Format.
Example: ' and " work, then I changed ' to guacamole (MU) and " to salsa (SU), save, yes/all, guacamole would change and not salsa. Unless I changed the Label format then save, yes/all, then back

But it works!

Thanks

maybe its the trial version I'm on    :|

I can't get my unit labels to save, either - not even if I perform a 'save settings'. I've found that MicroStation has quite a few variables that don't save - there are a couple in the batch plot facility, such as the layout properties, which don't save to their particular batch plot. This causes many headaches when I'm expecting to get one result, then something else happens and I'm stuck playing Nancy Drew trying to figure out which setting is off.

But hey, welcome to the world of MicroStation!

Take a look at your units.def file.
I believe by changing this file (back it up first) you will get it to display as you want.

Wow, I just found our units.def file, and all lines are commented out. This means there's all this customization potential we haven't tapped into yet! Thanks a bunch, AZ!
