Just curious really.
We've upgraded to 2013, and the new ability to select the items I wish to detail is a great upgrade from 2012. Having used this same feature in SolidWorks and Inventor, I must say that I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately, I still don't think I like it. :| It's sort of slow, and I would like more control over the linework. Perspective views with hidden lines are great, but we rarely want to show all of the hidden lines; it's just too confusing for some assemblies. SolidWorks and (IIRC)Inventor allow you to remove lines, change line colors, and vary the line weight.
Anyhow, just thought I'd poll the masses and see what folks think.

I've used the feature a handful of times and have not found it to be slow at all.
What type of control over lines are you looking for?
If I don't want to show hidden lines I freeze the layer they are on.

Unknown command "VIEWBASE". Press F1 for help.
Wait....
...what?
-
Yeah, I too call it ViewBase instead of Base View. Same difference.

I get unknown command for either .... so what is the ACTUAL command name?

that 'splains it....
NEW command not found in current version
also from this comment: I’m using Civil 3D as AutoCAD 2013. I was looking forward to trying this as soon as I heard about it but my program seems to not contain this feature. I can find viewbase in my help file. but it’s not in my cui. It appears as a option as I start to type the command, but when I select it, it says “command not found”. Could there be a problem with my installation, or does Civil 3D just not support this?
it may not work within my workspace of choice

You're probably looking with the wrong glasses ...
-
see above...there may be an issue within Civil 3D as Autocad

Now that you'vce changed your story I'm even more confused. Where is the quote from ??
I think it's about time for me to cease trying to answer questions :(

that quote is from one of your FINKLESTIEN links posted earlier

I see no reason why it shouldn't be there. Could it be undefined for some strange reason?

well Finklestien, nor the poster of that comment has added any follow up to the issue...I can't say
