Elevation Marks?
« on: April 30, 2007, 12:17:58 PM »
As a house designer I deal with surveys provided by others.
I see this from time to time & wanted to know is there any significance to the differant elevations marks found in the same survey?

I doubt it, but you really need to ask the preparer.

Thanks for the reply.

I did see this in the Legend which indicates to me that there is no deference.
0∙00 =  0.00 = EXISTING ELEVATION
But I was curious why use both methods?

Perhaps the old geezer who signs the surveys (and the checks) has a block he prefers to use that uses the second format which works well along a course but not at corners. The 0.00 method would be more readable in a corner situation.  Not a good reason to be sure for two different styles for the same thing.

Actually, it appears that he is trying to have the decimal point of the elevation mark where the shot was taken and hasn't quite figured it out yet. ( That's a Corps standard thing. It's easy to do if you stop and think about it.)
And it also appears as a prime example of not "paying attention to detail". (Lordy they drilled that into my head in OCS!!) The two formats should NEVER appear on the same drawing. That don't fly around here. Either do it right or don't do it.
