reading object data
« on: October 04, 2006, 01:33:23 PM »
I recieved a file from a client. He converted it from 2007 to 2000 for me. What I need to know, is if there was object data attached, did I loose it in the conversion? If not, how do I read it. It is a file that has well locations and the data that is supposed to be attached is the owner and lat / long of the well.

Thanks in advance for your help

I think you need map or ldd to read object data
Everyone has a photographic memory, Some just don't have film.

I do have LDD2000. But not sure if the conversion from LDT07 to LDD2000 lost the data, or I just don't know how to read the data.

There is also an option when exporting whether or not to export the MAP data with the drawing.  Unless this option was chosen, you got no data.  I would not be surprised if the data was unable to survived the trip back to 2000 regardless.

ok I tried the map / tools / convert object data to database links. But I can't define the link template. I get the message ASE error: 45057 - error: OLEDB provider is not registered.

Does this mean that the data was lost

The data may be there but your 2000 version doesn't know what to do with it.  The data format may have changed since 2000 or it may be a in a format not yet available 2000.  Is 2000 the latest LDT/MAP you have access to?

For some reason, I can not download the file.  Either try again or email it to me at the address in my profile.

I have just sent drizzt an ESRI shape file that contains all of the attached data, but I am not sure what r2000 can do with it.  If anyone with experience doing this in r2000 has any suggestions please jump in and help.

drizzt indicated in his last email that if all else failed, he had a GIS reader that would allow him to view the data.  I never heard if he could import the data into 2000, but I think it should have worked for him.  I hope so as the file he had was full of wonderful data waiting to be mined.

The 'best' way to deal with Object data, or any SOURCE file.
Open a blank MAP session (or Civil 3d) attach the SOURCE file:WELLS-WATER-r2000.dwg
Perform an ALL query, using ALTER properties and define your text properties
from the attached object data.

Otherwise, open the file, and use MAP>>Object Data>>Edit Object data to view the attached object data

OR,

Use MAP>>Annotation>>Define Annotation Template and create Annotation Templates to label the
various features as desired from the attached object data.

Be your Best
