Video Problem with one Drawing
« on: January 29, 2015, 12:24:22 PM »
Not sure what is going on with this DWG. Using ACAD2006
There are a lot of hatches & may be the cause.
When I pan & zoom in model space the display of model space gets corrupted, turns black (background color) and if I cursor over an object it becomes visible.
But then ACAD locks up & I have to kill the acad process.

I tried deleting the hatches but no luck.

Any ideas?  No other drawing so far are giving me trouble.

Thanks

No issues here. It's probably not the file.

Do you have hardware acceleration on?

I had a very similar issue, along with multiple copies of the pointer crosshairs that wouldn't erase, etc. They upgraded my graphics card and it fixed it here.

what are your adaptive degradation settings?

---> googling "adaptive degradation" (My AutoCAD book went with my previous boss   and I haven't gotten a new one yet.)

Thanks for testing.
My video driver is up to date although this card is not the best for ACAD

All other drawings are fine (I hope) so there is something different about this one.

Audit in ACAD2006 found no errors and that command is not in 2006. But all the viewports were originally on layer "Defpoints".
I recently moved them to a Hidden layer.

OK I saved back to R12 dxf & lost the layouts but no video problem.
Perhaps it is the dreaded Defpoints gremlin.  >:D

I run into this a lot because I am using MEP. I think you need to EXPORTTOAUTOCAD in order to get rid of that stuff. It's libraries and dictionaries for AEC content. It doesn't look like you are using any and I thought it might help with performance. Just a shot in the dark on my part, but your saving back as a DXF did the same thing plus more.

Did you by chance try WBlocking the drawing before the resorting to DXF?

I did delete all the arrow hatches (ANSI 31) and saved to a new DWG name.
So far no crashes. maybe the viewports are not the problem.

I will try a solid hatch now.

Just tested it on a computer here that has a Radeon 4550. It does not lock up, but you should definitely upgrade your video card :)

FWIW .. you'll get much more bang for your buck with the EVO series over PRO. I have 8 of them (250GB) in our office and they're rock solid.

Right you are but I don't have money for both. :(
So if I can live with the Video Card I will spend the money on the SSD.

Ron, given that the Pro is slightly faster & 5 year warranty you still think EVO is a better buy?

Comparison of the smaller drives: I expect the 512GB to be similar to 256GB in speed

Problem is my computer has a SATA II and will not be at max speed.

It's $100 cheaper .. I'd say it's worth it. Real world application you won't notice a difference between the two. Now you need a sata 3  computer :)

Wow, you're spending my money faster than I can make it.

Kidding aside, it may be time for a new box so I can upgrade the video card & get SSD.
Only problem is it's not broke.  ;)
