Stripping Autocad
« on: November 07, 2008, 12:35:40 PM »
Hi folks,

So we have Map3d2009 at our company and we have a system setup for rendering all cad, tif, doc, etc files into pdfs. I'm using 2009 in to convert tifs and cad files, but the problem is that 2009 has all these "extra" features that are bogging this thing down. So far I have the following dialog boxes to suppress:

1. Drawing recovery
2. Drawing was not created by autodesk product
3. Too many filters for the amount of layers
4. Unreconciled layers
5. Something about a query in map3d error, I don't remember the details.

So I was wondering, is there a way to strip some of this functionality out of autocad? Can i rename some of the dlls? can I x some things out of the registry?

I just need it to be able to plot drawings. I can't use any non-autodesk product because then I won't be able to measure & id drawings like i  do right now. So I'm stuck with Autodesk, and since we have quiet a few map licenses, i'm using that.

Thanks. I know there are probably variables for all these, but don't know what they are too.

When you install there should be an option to create a Vanilla ACAD profile and shortcut.

can it be stripped beyond vanilla? cause vanilla even has too much functionality for me.

What about DWG TrueView?

i looked at that but I won't be able to determine what type of drawing it is i'm plotting with it, it's api is very limited. We're checking attributes, checking border extents, size of drawing etc.

One way I was thinking was to check the drawing with autocad's activex control, then when I have it figured out submit it the way I want to some other viewer... But that's a big work around.
