Building a custom parts list
« on: June 09, 2009, 11:12:19 AM »
I am trying to get VCP in our pipes list; what I have done is to copy the PVC files and edit them to show as VCP with the proper thickness adjusted through the XML file, but they will not show up in the parts list still, is there a higher XML file that I will need to update to have these show up in my options? :x

If only you had posted this last week when I was in Iowa....

Let me see it I can type a good explanation of what you will need to do to get your parts to show up in the part catalog and post post it after class, or during lunch today.  (Note there is going to be some time delay as I am teaching a group in Eagle River, Alaska today.)

Sorry about the timing but this is the first "down time" that we have had for me to dive in and create what we want for this.  I am here all day so post when you can.

I figured out where my problem was, I needed to change the ID number to something else as it was relating to PVC still.

Sorry about the timing ...

Not to worry about the 'timing'; as you know I am always going somewhere no matter where I am on any given day.

Excellent catch on the renaming, numbering as I might not have known that was the omitted step!

If you understand what the xml is doing you can easily recreate what you want with what they started with...they just failed to go far enough!

Alan,

To ADD Materials to the Pipes Parts Lists

Create the Parts List

Add the Part Family

Then when you Add Part Sizes, Simply Type in the new Material Name in the Materials Column

!!!CAUTION!!!!

It the column is NOT dragged open to the Right as WIDE as the Material Name it will be TRUNCATED because the stupid column does NOT auto-size to fit what one types in there.

See Attached...

and have a nice day!

You can also modify the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2008\enu\Pipes Catalog\US Imperial Pipes\AeccSharedPropertyLists.xml to add a material to the list.

hmm, but how do i add/create materials? it will not let you just type in a material name, it will only allow you to select from a displayed list. i can't even find where these materials exist.

Alan, one simply types the new material into the material column.  It's so simple it's difficult.

ok, i got it now, if you just type it in, it will reset it if you open it back up for editing. how odd.
it works, i just have to make sure i don't open them for editing after i manually type in the material (not that i need to be editing it).

thank you so much Michael.
