Title: Geolocation => Map Aerial
Post by: Mark on December 09, 2014, 03:15:05 PM
The command would be _geomap Select map type [Aerial/Road/Hybrid/Off] <Off>: _a

This is a hit and miss with us. Sometimes we get the aerial and sometimes not. Anyone else having success with using this feature in Map/Civil3D?

NO - because it mostly sucks....

I get my Aerial Maps from 'other' sources.

With 2014, I've had location errors ranging from 2 ft to 2 miles, on survey files that were on state plane coordinates.  DOT aerials landed correctly, so it was GeoMaps that was off.

2015 so far has been better in location, but extracting a MapImage invariably results in a poorer quality image that what I'd just been looking at, as well as 'jumping' a few pixels.

The only time I've had nothing show up was when the location I was looking at was out of the range of the state plane assigned to the drawing.  eg trying to get an overall image background from the headwaters of the Ochlockonee down to the mouth at Bald Point.

FDOT almost always has 'better' imagery in Florida.

Have you tried getting data from the National Map site?

FDOT gets an A+PLUS (https://fdotewp1.dot.state.fl.us/AerialPhotoLookUpSystem/), as it were. :-D

That's weird :?; I created a new account just prior to posting that (because I had not seen that site before yesterday), and it took only moments to complete.

Now, the email confirmation that allowed me to actually use the site, download, etc. took a while... but still. :-)

What happened (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?159870-GeoPDF) when you tried converting the geoPDF to a geoTIFF (http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Convert_GeoPDF_to_GeoTiff)? :?

Cheers

At that point it is no longer a GeoPDF and ceases to present a challenge.
However the lack of native GEO_PDF support remains.

GeoPDF support is available in QGIS....it's open source (FREE)
no subscription required.
One can then export the PDF (raster layer) as GeoTiff

And people have been asking for this from Autodesk for over a year.
It just exposes that lack of support or improvements one gets for their subscription fees.

I just noticed that the link I copied in from another thread was broken; it's not fix here (http://www.theswamp.org/index.php?topic=48390.msg534804#msg534804).

I actually do use QGIS in lieu of Bentley's products, just need to do the 'support .GDB steps'... In any event, thanks for pointing that out.

You've been saying this for, well, the same if not longer, my friend... I see that you and Autodesk share a similar effectiveness rating. :-P

Cheers

No not exactly,  NO ONE is forced into buy a subscription service from me, nor do I write software and sell it to people as functioning or fit for purpose, promise upgrades or enhances to same.
