Map of U.S.?
« on: January 29, 2009, 09:20:14 AM »
I am looking for a Map of the U.S. showing major highways & Interstates.

I was going to begin my search elsewhere on the web, but thought that someone here may have one in CAD.

I want to plot it out on our ANSI E plotter and I figure that CAD would be greater quality.

Do any of you have one?

Yes that is the kind of stuff I have been finding.

But I don't want all of the 'background' stuff, ie Mountains, etc...

My wife and I travel a lot on our motorcycle, and we would like to highlight / mark roads we have been on. We want to hang it on the wall in our entertainment room to 'show off'.

I am afraid that all of the background stuff would make it tough to see the roads. I was thinking that if it was in CAD, the quality of the printed version would be much better when plotted so large.

Click on the picture of the US on the right to open a PDF of the major roadways.

Here's a snippet of what it looks like.

That is exactly what I was looking for - (other than it not being CAD.)

But I think the .pdf will plot out just as well. I zoomed in on it and it looks pretty clear.

Thanks for taking the time to find it for me.

No problem!

It was the second search result (right below Google's shameless plug for maps.google.com).

There was one posted in DWG format to the autodesk.autocad.customer-files forum/newsgroup on October 29, 2008. It shows the US, including Alaska & Hawaii, and Canada. Looks like Interstates only, but there is a layer, which is off, that has point objects for major cities. I'll post it here if you can't get to it on the Adesk groups.

Pretty cool, but tough to follow without labels & State Boundries.

What do you see if you look at the properties on a line.

Well, I plotted out the U.S. Map and it looks GREAT.

I am anxious to get it mounted on the Wall at home and start highlighting the roads we have taken - (those we remember anyway).

Thanks for all of the suggestions to all of you.
