That's just one way to do it (per MJ thoughts). My point in the beginning is hatch can achieve the same effect you're looking for on a single layer and will accept a wider variety of shapes. Plus IMO using the picK internal point option it's much easier to create these areas.

Below is an example that took less than a minute to draft. How long would it take you to draft wipeouts ?  :P

Thinking of this further.....

So if I were to switch to Hatches from Wipeouts, how would I make the background the same color as the background of the rest of the dwg? I know how to make the diagonal background change, but the area NOT being worked on, I want to be the same as  that around it but not show and walls, etc. underneath it. - Basically mimicking a Wipeout.

'Edited' - I don't want the unused area to 'gray'.

I hope you understand what I am trying to ask, I don't know a better way to describe it.

Are you talking about on the screen or when you print? If it's on the screen then just use your wipeouts. If it's for printing, you'll have to pick a color and change the screening in your color table to 0%.

or refuse to mess with your pen tables, then use TrueColor 255,255,255 for the solid hatch.

if you want to get funkier effects, set it to a level of transparency
