Excel data linking
« on: February 18, 2010, 12:55:26 PM »
Here is an abbreviated version of my issue.  My company currently uses an excel spread sheet for the cover sheet, in that spread sheet there are variables that once selected inputs the data into the coversheet by preforming calculations.  I have been tasked with figuring out how to link these data cells with an AutoCAD file. Can anyone help me?

Thanks for reading my post!

Have you tried the Table command?  Which version of AutoCAD are you using?

Table can link you directly to your spreadsheet.

Its not really that kind of table, it has formulas that once a criteria is imput it will calculate or select the correct code reference etc.

I think we may need more info.

Here is the spread sheet I have unhidden everything.  I think that I will probably have to figure out how to write code to include all of the if thans that are in the spread sheet.  That will be a MAJOR undertaking for me because I have never written any that detailed.

Well, how 'bout you try the Table command, set up a data link... call it Test, as Mark showed and go and link it to your spreadsheet.  That might be all you're looking for.

I tried it after he suggested and it was not giving me the desired effect.

Well I'm confused then. You can update the excel file and the changes will show-up in autocad.

Hmmmm.
Can you show us Drawing with the information as you want it.

BTW:  It shows that there is a lot of work put into that sheet.

BTW2: Welcome to The Swamp.
I + XI = X is true ...  ... if you change your perspective.

I no longer CAD or Model, I just hang out here picking up the empties beer cans

Ahhh fudge. I can't remember how to do it.
There is a way not to go through the table command and I can remember it.  When I get a chance tomorrow I will ask one of the Architects to that is stuck on this way inserting excel even though tables (for his use) are the better option.
