Template Shortcut

I’m trying to add a .dwt (shortcut) into the AutoCADLT template folder so that it will show as a choice in the startup wizard, but I'm having a problem...It will read a template file but not a template shortcut....

Is there anyway to change the file type from "shortcut" to "AutoCADLT Template"?

Thanks

Mario

I'm not sure...a shortcut is actually a *.lnk file so it may not show up all the time unless you show All Types (*.*) instead of AutoCAD Template File (*.dwt) in the file type dropdown.  Some programs do well with them and some don't.  I have shortcuts to folders and they don't work with all programs.  Sometimes, if I'm trying to do a saveas, I'll double click the shortcut to the folder and it tries to save the file as that shortcut.  Althought Windows and many programs are getting better at recognizing shortcuts and the way they work with them, they're still not quite there.
Hopefully someone else has experienced this problem before and fixed it...I know I was no real help...

works for me! this what i did:
copied a .dwt from my templates folder to a temp folder
right click on .dwt "create shortcut"
moved shortcut to template folder.
in acad select "new" I see "Shortcut to __Named Plot Styles.dwt"

BTW the shortcut has a 'dwt' extension.

How do you change the shortcut from .lnk to .dwt in Windows 2000 PRO?

I only know how to do it in DOS but I'm way to rusty.....

I didn't have to! XP did it for me. anyway highlight the file and hit F2 to rename it.

That’s how you rename the file name.... but it doesn’t change the file type.

for example.....

I have file: shortcut to TEMPLATE.lnk

And I renamed it to: shortcut to TEMPLATE.dwt

And it still reads like this: shortcut to TEMPLATE.dwt.lnk

I think...... because I look at the properties of the newly renamed Template and it still reads as a .lnk.... :?

What Service Pack are you running?   I think that might be your problem...well, not really a problem, but it might be your solution.  I'm at Win 2000 pro SP4 and my shortcuts now show the file extension they're supposed to instead of .lnk.  Give that a go with your I.T. folks...
