Challenge? Select Like Objects
« on: February 26, 2008, 11:51:00 AM »
This isn't a request for code, disguised as a challenge.  I just thought of it while Cadding away here.

Would it be possible to allow a user to select a number of objects, have your code analyze what they are and how they're arranged in relation to eachother and then go out and find similar instances of the same objects?

I just thought of it while deleting some old rev triangles off a drawing.  These ones were made just using lines and text, rather than the attributed block that we use now.  Like I said, I was just wondering if it would be possible.

Having the routine find 3 lines sharing end points is easy enough, but beyond that there would need to be rules for each type of object for a match criterion.

Isn't that kind of like the old SSX command in the ...[Looks around for Michael]... Express Tools

The option already exists as a right click in MEP.
Select Similiar.

Why it doesnt exist in regular CAD is likely because of the AEC libraries.
After that your left with qselect.

I've looked at this topic a couple times and sadly must conclude that, as currently defined, I could not help out, even though I would very much like too.
