Font not available in the Style dialog

I have a few fonts that refuse to display in the style dialog and also refuse to render in the drawing. These are shx files that are indded fonts - I have used them numerous times before, but I just installed them on this computer.

The font folder is in the path and other fonts in the font folder are found and displayed correctly.

I've checked and rechecked - deleted - reinstalled - rebooted - restarted acad

nothing seems to work

any suggestions?

Rogue SHX file with the same name being found further up the search path?  (findfile...) call finds the "proper" file?

No - findfile finds the correct file

Funny thing - every other font in the folder is recognized

I guess next stop is to see if perhaps the font files from my thumb drive are corrupted.

These both load, and work, fine for me in 2012.
