For those following, there is a specific line "WATER SURFACE EXTENTS:" that is missing from Willie's original file. By turning that import option on in the HEC-RAS export options, I was able to generate and SDF file that imported without issue in 2011.

Yes, this should be addressed. I have placed an item in our tracking system, but I cannot say where it will fall in terms of priorities.

Hope this helps, Willie.

According to Willie, in an email this AM
Turning ON all export operations from HEC-RAS STILL produces error in version 2010.

I trust that this isn't going to be a case of the only solution left to the user is to upgrade?

What say you Willie, any different results to report?

How about posting a sample file that contains ALL of the data entry lines that are required for the Import HEC-RAS function to do so without error(s).  At least a user would then have something (documented) to compare their bad file against, and at the very least be able to enter or create the data lines required for success during import.

We may not be able to see a fix for this, and in the interim it would at least give a template of what data the applet wants and the format it desires.

Hi James,

We are still working with 2010 and we had some issues with our 2011 licenses.  The licence issues has been cleared up yesterday and hopefully I will be able to try to import the *.sdf file with 2011 this week.  I still need to get the HECRAS import/export extension for 2011.

I have tried all the export options on the HECRAS side of things, but it doesn't change the way that 2010 imports the file.  I just kept the export data to a minimum on the HECRAS side to simplify opening the *.sdf file in Excel and scripting it into Civil 3D.

I will let you know if I have problems importing the *.sdf file into 2011.

Thanks
Willie

James,

I cannot import the the that were attached to your post in 2010.

I get the same error as with the ones that I have exported.  Could you please test the files with 2010 and see if it imports correctly?

If it imports correctly with 2011, Autodesk must have made some changes to the HECRAS import/export extension.

Thanks
Willie

Problem solved.

It imports perfectly into 2011 without any issues.

I'm glad 'it' worked for you as well Willie. Shame that 'it' happened to be upgrade or suffer.
I'd still like to see the contents and framework of what constitutes a valid file as stated previously.
And as you most likely figured out there is no extension required for the HEC-RAS import in 2011.
