Title: Sheet/Layout background color behind "Uniform background".
Post by: Malice on December 10, 2010, 10:09:18 AM
(AutoCad 2011)
I am looking for the location to change the background color behind the "Uniform background" in paperspace. I do not want to change the paper color just the color behind the paper....

The sort of the grayish/light blue color behind the white paper.

First off, thanks for the welcome.

Thanks for the reply, however I do not want to change the "Uniform Background" color. I want to leave that white, but I do want to change the color behind the white/Uniform Background (paper), not the paper color itself.

I think that color may be set by the Windows display property

Thanks Michael, yes that is where I have been changing it but it makes the whole thing the same color, I guess I was just hoping I was missing the actual setting for that area somwhere.

Stephen, I don't see anywhere in Windows that would control that.

I was thinking the same thing but I can't find anything in XP.

I could find it with XP but am working with 7 currently and they moved my food dish.  I think t is either the application background or menu background selection in the advanced settings.

EDIT -

It is in the  advanced display settings --> Window Color and Appearance --> "ITEMS" selection box --> Application Background setting

I am actually on Windows XP (64bit), however that does not appear to be the setting to change the area I am looking to change. That only seems to change the color behind the application (when it opens), not the area behind the "paper" in paper space.

I think I might simply be looking for something that isn't there.

Thanks for all who have been looking!

I did some research on the web and it appears that the paper space background can be toggled on & off
but it's color can not be changed. It was suggested that there may be a hidden registry entry that controls the color.
It appears that Windows does not control this color.

Maybe I spoke too soon as I did find this:
http://advcad.wordpress.com/2009/06/13/changing-the-paper-space-background-color/

doesn't work in ACAD2006 though. There is no Uniform background option.

Will anybody with >=2009 try it?

Did that method change the gray area behind the paper?

yes and no...

it turns the ENTIRE layout to chosen color...

right up until you toggle the Display Paper Background back on....

it's a FAIL

Have you ever wanted to change the background color in paper space?  I’m referring to the gray area outside of the paper border.  Suppose you wanted the entire background to be black, just like model space.  Here is how you can change it.
