C3D 2011
« on: March 25, 2010, 06:11:32 PM »
Anybody tried it yet?

I see that Autodesk claims it now has 64-bit support in C3D.  Does this mean it actually runs in 64-bit mode?  And if so, what is that going to mean for my VBA macros?  Will they run at all in 64-bit?

We are still using 2008, but are thinking that it is almost time for us to upgrade.

From other conversations, it will run on 64 bit OS, however the application is still 32....unless I've read it all wrong.

Looks like it's supported now.  http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/pc/index?siteID=123112&id=8777380#channels_What%E2%80%99s%20New

You've read it all wrong, Michael. C3D 2011 will come in both 32 & 64 bit flavors for your enjoyment.

Although I think some people will be disappointed, because they'll be expecting 64-bit to mean "faster"...   :-(

Jeff...That is possible, as sometimes 'supported' and 'COMPATIBLE' is not the same as fully enabled.

I'm sure you know what I mean there.  And as always; I am willing to be wrong.

Interesting (or confusing) that the 'free trial' link contains language about C3D2010? ! ?

Although I know that the verticals typically have some lag time from the core release.

I don't think 2011 is available yet.

Yep.  Not recently.

Thanks yall.  I had just looked at the "What's new" page with the trial download and assumed they had released 2011, but when I logged into subscription, I see that only AutoCad and Inventor are 2011.  I'll probably download and start playing with it next month(surely it will be released soon), but I can't imagine that we would actually switch over until at least SP1.

Is the plan to also upgrade the hardware, and OS to 64 bit, along with the C3D?

I believe they are currently targeting the second half of April for Civil 3D 2011 release.
