Title: Command Line output wider???
Post by: whdjr on March 13, 2007, 12:41:02 PM
My command line goes all the way across my screen (approx 18") but text only shows up on the first 6" of it.  Is there a way to make the information shown at the command use the entire width of the command line?

You can undock it and set it to the size you want.  Depending on where you place it, you may need to hold down the control key to keep it from docking.

No. It's based on the old display limit of 80 characters

can be demonstrated :
Quote
Command: 123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890123456789012345678901234567890

:-o Sheesh . . . I finally get a chance to log on and even read some posts so I first thing go muff an easy ground ball.    That will teach me to try to read and attempt intelligent answers with a kitten alternating between my shoulder and the top of my head for a perch!

So can it be changed or do I have to suffer indefinitely?   :-(

If it's changed then redirecting console output to file or printer will also be affected.

.. thats not saying you couldn't start a campaign to have it changed ...

I do like Dino said, and undock it and resize it.  At work, with a single 20" monitor, I resize it so that it is about five lines high and a bit less than half the screen width - this is big enough to show everything I'm interested in, while covering less than half the screen real-estate of the docked toolbar.

At home, with two monitors, I undock the command window and move it to the second monitor, where it's about 12 lines high, and only wide enough to display an 80-character line.

Undocking the command window caused me to have all sorts of problems with my Nostromo n52, but I decided that with the new customizations offered by the CUI, I didn't need the n52 anymore.

Thanks for the examples Sinc.  I am happy with my Command Line where it is I just want it to use all it's allocated screen real estate.

That's kind of what I was saying.  You can't use the real estate for text, but if you undock your command window, you can use the real estate for other things.  The attached image shows how I generally configure my setup at work, with a single monitor.
