But for Xrefs, if I have a huge one, I always xclip it. Would this be the same result or is partial load  better?

I could put 400 of my drawings into your 100mb+ drawing ... so there is absolutely NO WAY I'd ever run out of memory .. :)

I dont work with partial open myself as ouyr files are never that huge.You can unload all XREF's using the command or you can disable layers within the XREF.I havent tried using the partiaload option to specify particular XREF's

Thanks for all the help.

A lot of good advice was given here but not of any use to me . The persons who have this problem don't want to change the way they're working....

Anyway, I've solved the problem by making a routine (VBA) that shuts down Acad completely (= freeing MEM) and then starting Acad again and resume the operations they want to have done.
