autosave in acad 2013 a mega pita
« on: April 30, 2014, 04:35:40 AM »
Hello there,

i know we are already in 2014 and acad 2015 is out there, but i just moved to acad 2013, just to find out that the auto-save takes forever. it also seems to save to a .tmp extension plus the

.SV$

Why is that and can i disable that? I don't need that .tmp file.

Thanks in advance
Bernd

Assuming you did not have auto-save turned off before that is probably not the problem. There are a number of other reasons that this could be happening. Most of them having to do with computer maintenance. Have you looked for other causes?

First I would check your pathing for AutoSave and .tmp files. Make sure the directories are appropriate and folders are not bloated.

To answer your question, (I'm not in front of CAD ATM but) if you go to options and look under the "Open and Save" tab, you should find the AutoSave and .tmp settings that you are looking for.

i did not have that problem in acad2012, so it must be a acad2013 problem, all other things remained the same. it thkes forever to create the tmp file, and i don't even know why it does that because the the file extension is SV$ for the autosave files. i don't get that.

typically, ISAVEPERCENT is best set at 0.

i did not have that problem in acad2012, so it must be a acad2013 problem

I doubt it is. It might be an install problem but highly unlikely a problem with the software itself. Make sure you have any service packs installed. Maybe try to repair the installation.

Is this the same machine as you had 2012 in?
Do you still have 2012 installed?
Have you checked the settings to see if there are any differences?
Did you install the 64 bit version?
Are your computer specs sufficient?
Is the computer maintained on a regular basis with regular disk cleanup, defrag, virus/malware scans, drivers up to date, etc.?

2013 and 2014 have a higher rate of saving to network locations.  Does this happen on only network locations and not on local files?  If so, time to do some investigation, tweaking, and/or updates on your network set-up.

Yes, older versions didn't have this problem but you have to work with what is, not what was.
